I don't think it'll be OS5. I think it'll be an earlier version of OS4! The one Amiga Inc paid for, for that port to the IBM mobile device.

Why an earlier version?

As has been said here in this thread (and earlier by the Friedens), Adam of ACK has full access to the sources (the reason to why he wouldn't have to pay the $20.000 porting fee to Hyperion would be because he would take care of the porting himself), and Amiga Inc's position seems to be that they are the legal owners of the full rights to OS4. Think about that.

SAM started to look a little to real to please AInc, and therefore they had to select a new "prime" HW-partner, and this time they made sure to take a very reliable producer of the finest vapour ......

Looks that way to the casual bystander doesn't it!!!

Amiga is all about the vapour baby

So, they finally released the hardware for Amiga 1200 (ACK) so I can run OS 4.0 in my A1200?

ACK has made designs for amiga.inc, and so if amiga.inc then build and sell them, why would they ask themselves those questions? its a good way to get a license if you are the company that already owns it.

even if they havnt got the high end design and havnt released anything yet either?

i have no preference in anything, but most posts are just one sided for whatever reasons people have.

1 x mobile phone game company buying harware designs in order to relaunch a computer platform does not fill me with confidence. Especially when the said hardware designer has never had one of his computer mother board designs come to market!

Well this is progress. I wasn't expecting an ACK Controls announcement, but this is good. A pity that no technical specifications are given. But then, vague press releases seems to be the thing to do these days. I await the "Manufacturing and final price information along with product launch schedules" that "will be following in the next week."

Just because ACK has a deal, doesn't mean that A-Cube won't get one too.

Am I the only one who thinks the picture of a video camera with a boing ball pasted on is absolutely dismally bad?

Nope.

Hey! The image is mirrored too. The writing on the camera is backwards.

First time I've been on holiday in a year, and this happens.

A couple of thoughts:

1) The news item very specifically does not state that a license has been granted to run OS4 or OS5 - it just states that "Two New Hardware Designs for the Amiga Operating System are on their way." The word "license" is not used anywhere as far as I can see.
Since the licensing issue is SO contentious I fail to see why there is no mention of a license in this news article. It is the defining issue of Amiga-oriented hardware - could they really have just neglected to mention it?

2) The article does not state that the designs are only 12 months old - only that ACK has been working on them with A.inc for 12 months. The designs could easily be the PV-LT or PV-TL designs, with A.inc having been involved only over the last 12 months.

3) The article only talks about "new hardware designs" and about hardware being "on its way" - there is no information whatsoever here about the state of development.

Whilst I think that some of the reading-between-the-lines which goes on regarding Amiga hardware news articles is over-the-top (if not unjustified, given recent history) imho this is a purely political news release, which has little or nothing to do with the level of completion of the hardware designs.

Adam, Bill, 2-out-of-10 for effort - must do better. I don't think you'll convince anyone without an independently verified prototype running an OS (linux, Amiga, whatever). Until then anything you say - based on the evidence of ALL of your previous announcements - must be considered vapour. I'm sorry, but without independent evidence your respective words carry no weight any more.

I remain hopeful that some hardware is pending, but wholly unconvinced by this (ambiguous at best) news release.

Regards

Rich

It is????

Well, like you two, the first thing my eyes latched onto when I got to that page was... that video camera, and the first thing that came to my mind was, "Egad! Look at that really ancient video camera! It's straight outta the '80s!" And then on second glance, "It looks a mite banged-up, too. Sorta like the Amiga community...!"

Aren't we forgetting something here..... For OS4 to run on this new tub, Hyperion would have to be involved to get the bloody thing to boot.

I make no predictions... alot of news in the last couple of weeks but if we get new Amiga hardware with a new copy of an Amiga OS then I will show my Аrse in Harrods window.
