Excellent! What make of guitar is it? |
The acoustic is a Fender CD-60. The Electric is a Jack & Danny ST 66 (looks like a Stratocaster, just a whole lot cheaper )

Yeah there's your trouble. I wouldn't say I "can play"... It's more like I sometimes hit the right strings. Er.. well. it mostly sounds like music, but really, I'm miles away from your namesake I am much better at kernel coding :)

So when, sorry if, my band tours Germany, which I hope it will at some point, you're definitely getting up and doing a tune with us. I'll be sure to keep you in mind for that dual solo spot in the middle of the set |
Right, if you want to make sure no one comes to listen to your band anymore ...
But that's ... er... *coughs*... off-topic. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail

Uh, I am quite sure that with 3.9/P96, even non-active screens were in video ram. Hence the ability too almost instantaneously switch between screens. |
They can be, but will be swapped out if video ram runs out. But only the active screen HAS to be in video ram because you cannot drag screens and reveal what is behind it. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail

| After all these years there is finally a new Amiga OS working on a PPC motherboard = good
What to do?
Years back when the A1 came out I sold my super A1200 http://www.loriano.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/A1200P1.htm
to buy the A1...too late, they all sold out.
Now the SAM+OS4.1 are out but I have just splashed out on a AMD X2 @3.0GHz with 4GB RAM and 2x 500GB 32MB Cache SATA2 Hard drives, the lot for £180 (GBP), because the laptop was driving me nuts!
On top of that the few thousands pounds I have put in to develop and produce the Minimig enclosure
www.loriano.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk
are stopping me from buying the SAM+OS4.1 combo
To make things more complicated, the case I designed for the SAM is now on hold because I can't carry on until the Minimig enclosures are all sold...
This is a difficult one...decisions, decisions... Last edited by TheDaddy on 18-Sep-2008 at 08:42 AM. Last edited by TheDaddy on 18-Sep-2008 at 08:41 AM.

[compositing memory usage] Thanks, your comment has been very useful and interesting, I have wondered myself too why compositing needs so much memory.

Wait a minute, are you telling us that you have too a Sam with OS4? I knew you have sold your A1 back in the days, and I thought you didn't have any Amiga anymore.

| @some in this thread
Good grief! You are *finally* presented with new hardware??? And SOME of you on this thread are complaining that it is too EXPENSIVE ?
How is that so? I mean, honestly... of course you won't get it for nothing, but 360 euros for a board and 125 euros for 4.1... A 'setup' for under 500, before shipping... That's expensive? I know it is all relative, but, come on... the Micro was over 1k...
/me shrugs
I would think that many have been saving their 'pennies' for a looooong time for this... _________________ ¤¤ Official Hyperion Zealot ¤¤

I agree. But as I was saying in my previous post (see above) I have had quite a lot of cash going out and very little, at the moment, coming in

More than £400+ for the board+£whateveritis for OS4.1+ a case+ a PSU and a DVD-RW is quite expensive, not too expensive for someone who really wants it. You are definately not going to attract new people to this system for a long time. So it's down to us to bear the cost of it all.

Sure, but a long time has passed since and the money can't stay under the mattress for ever Last edited by TheDaddy on 18-Sep-2008 at 09:50 AM.

Well I agree with most of your sayings in this thread and even i garee that a port of OS4.x to the Efika wouldn't make too much sense (or does not need a to have too high priority). The Efika is nice , no doubt, but it is not manufactured any longer. Plus the memory limitaion is really annoying. You know, I lreally like my Efika and use it very much 8sielent, very low energy), but I always have to watch the memory. Virtual memory (one feature I like of OS4 and miss in MorphOS) wouldn't be heplful on the Efika though, since the ide controller is just crippled and freaking slow. Don't get me wrong, the Efika is nice (really nice), but it is just a transition board. Hopefully we see soon a really cheap 512x based board 8which will run circles around the current Efika) . The Sam has quite some flaws too (too expensive by design), but currently seems to be the smarter choice for OS4.x. _________________ My programs: via.bckrs.de MorphOS user since V0.4 (2001)

I am a tester. Sure A1 has more powerfull G4, and i'm sure Quake3 will not run as fast as on it, but SAM really fly with OS4.1. Hyperion did a great Job with OS4.1 and compositing engine. The system is very fast on my SAM. I really don't miss my A1 for normal usage. _________________ ikir

| This is where I stand at the moment:
I really want OS4.1
It will all depend on how my Minimig enclosure will do in the next few weeks.
I don't want to swear but some people on this very forum were saying that my enclosure was too expensive!
People just don't realise how difficult it is to develop something new, with your own money, for the Amiga market until they have developed something themselves.
In my case I would have jumped on the SAM+OS4.1 but can't right now.
Well done Hyperion+ACube, great job! Last edited by TheDaddy on 18-Sep-2008 at 09:57 AM.

| @samwel "Congratulations to the release.. Hope you sell millions.. Your worth every penny you earn!"
not at that price. they won't sell even 10,000. Once again poor business practices by many amiga companies. Price would never be this high if they produced 25000 boards... I guess few people have the capital to make this happen.
I made a mistake buying A1 and this won't happen again. Last edited by terminator3 on 18-Sep-2008 at 10:14 AM.

I've seen the Efika live running MOS2 and I liked it myself, it's a nice little board, and it ran surprisingly fast in general things. I would really like to see a PDA based on that CPU. But this is getting off-topic |
