| Um. Im confused.. comparing a SAM to a PC that can run Vista.. or Any Other Form Of DeskTop Machine, is NOT an equal comparison..
Until the Atom came along, at 45nm, verses Sams 130 nm.. 4 times the reduction, 4 times the speed, 4 times lower power.. shrink SAM to 45nm and see it compete, you had to compare th SAM to EMBEDDED boards only..
OK, so who has the comparisons, for Intel or Via powered solid state fanlesssub 10 watt embedded systems, complete with what OSs are available for them, and the various capabilities?
When will you Please get of the idiocy of claiming Sam is no good compared to a desktop, when its an Embedded, that is, low quantity, highly specialised piece of equipment.
Its like comparing a Go-Cart to a car.. Or a Motobility Scooter.. have you seen how much those cost? Compared to a Tata?
This is exaclt yhe same argument as with the A1 when it came out.. the refusal to even try to even up the contest in short run prototype boards.
You want to compare prices, show a virtual comparison between an Amiga board produrd in at least 100k products, with bulk purchased parts that can be fully supported cos the data is available.

| I would like to have T-Shirt to wear with amiga. I would like the mr.oizo - flatbeat on the front. He should have a t-shirt on him with boing ball. And the hotdog(cigarette) should have amigacolours on it. On the back of the t-shirt should say something like. "Get your own copy of os4 and sam at ACube" and have a link under to the page in smaller text.
This would be cool but im no gfx person and not good in t-shirt stuff. If anyone is interested in making please send me a copy ;) A black or white. I hate grey colour on tshirt.
Why Flat beat ? Most people knows him from MTV and the music is cool and easy. That would get the attention and then people would check... hey what is that colours.... aaaaaa amiga :D

| Hmm, well, heres something intresting.. how much power is available over the phone line, at present, 48 volts, REN=4 (UK) or about 16 watts max.
How much power is avaiable in 21st CN, that is basic 10/100 Ethernet replacement, with Power over Ethernet.. 48 volt, maybe 30 watts plus?
How would you like your Samos to be a nice netphone, voip, screen etc.. which you just plug into the phone.. no messing with any mains leads.. so it also works during power cuts because of the massive UPS at the phone exchange? So it works in emergancies like the replacement broadcast system?
How many vresions can you think of for something cheap and fun and happy to play with?
These are prototypes.. even basic PIC and 68k developer boards can be the price of a MiniMig to SAM without even trying, and they aint even rated for actual use, just for playing with.
These days, the Toys cost a lot more than the finished product.. Watch Dragons Den.. $50000 for a dustbin prototype for example.. Its a bit of plastic.
Im waiting for certain other technologies to come about, but since theyve only just been discovered, will be a few years before they really make an impact 8(.
Wait till you see what AOS can do on a 1.5 micron thick flexible silicon circuit with 22 nm structures. 8) Using under 1 milliwatt power at 5 Ghz.

So, it's a swap partition? NIce! I hate the way windows uses a file in the normal directory tree.. and when it tries to expand it.. phew!
I'm so glad someone else saw the value in a dedicated partition to be used for swap!

You don't have to allow it to expand. You can set a partition manually to be used and a fixed size for it to always be. This both allows you to specify where it is, and stops it fragmenting your drive. _________________ Test sig (new)

| Hi, pls try dvd video and let us know the results, especially since you had/have the A1. curious how it compares. This would also show how fast you can copy large files (a must these days). |

| Awesome News!! Comparisons with the PC platform are stupid. This is a joyous day in that OS4.1 actually has a hardware platform to run off!!!!! OS4.1 can actually be bought in conjunction with a professionally designed and manufactured product! Both ownership, user base and developer numbers will vastly improve and we may have a viable platform again! (to rival RiscOS anyway )! _________________ "Art challenges technology. No, comparisons are simply unpopular.
Assuming that this release is sanctioned, it is a step in the right direction that will provide developers and dedicated hobbyists with an interim solution. No one is underestimating the significance or downplaying the enthusiasm over this product.
Will the price point and level of compatibility allow it to have broader appeal? No.
If making the OS hardware-agnostic isn't an objective, the joy will be short lived. |

Yes, and I wouldn't like to condone it either. But if Amiga Inc decided to kill OS4, effectively making it Abandonware, then I would rather people stick a finger up at them, than give-up and let OS4 die completely. (In case it isn't clear, I don't believe A.I. have any interest in OS4 as a living desktop OS, although I would love to be proved wrong...) _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language.
