| One quick question: Acube did not answer me about OS4.1 for my SAM. So do I have to order it over Vesalia now? Will I get the Full Version then first or do I recieve the early Beta instead until the Full version comes later for free as a package when beta tests are over? This confuses me a lot... |

| Once 4.1 for SAM is for sale, it will be a retail version. Beta's are for internal testing, as always.

I think psycreator was referring to this in the actual news article: Quote:
Prospective customers wishing to beta-test the near final OEM version of AmigaOS 4.1 for the SAM 440ep will be afforded the opportunity to do so and will subsequently receive the full version. Orders can be placed as of now with ACube. |
Oh, and over 27,000 reads for this article.. sweet! |

| But its big news and still is the biggest and most important news to hit the Amiga scene in quite some time.
I will certainly get a SAM board. _________________

| I really don't get that new habit on AW that we can see since some time now : bumping news item is really non sens for me unless when there is some update to the news. bumping for bumping is only prone to confusing readers by having a news item that is more than 5 days old on top of the news list.
I agree that OS 4.1 for SAM *is* a great news, yeah, but today this is no more a news, we should stick to something else (a news that is not 'new' is rather an oldies _________________ AOS 4.1 : I dream it, Hyperion did it ! While I see the need for this to be ON TOP as it were, I agree with you. I think there should be a separate optional section between the head forum threads and the head news. Put just one thing there, and that is whatever news story is deemed most important right now.
On online news sites one often reads complaints in comment threads about some news bit not being worthy of being on top of the front page. Well, duh. The whole point about online news is that you put the most recent on top. Unless you make it a rule to put the most important on top, followed by the most recent.
Of course, then we'll have a discussion about who decides what is most important, but right now there's not much else than OS4.1 for SAM440EP that can claim to compete for that title. And I have a feeling the next most-important-news we'll see is that said thing is released into the wild _________________ This weeks pet peeve: Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sometimes I don't even know what people mean.

| Those who have missed this news should have been out of the earth surface since 14 days then because I think every single Amiga dedicated forum/site/user group have relayed the information. The point of an online news sitet is to have the very latest "hot" news, if you want coldnews then you can buy newspapers
Moreover the heading is "recent news" not "important news", if one wants to have sticky news (what a strange concept isn't it) then it should be obvious to the reader, I guess something like a side panel called "Top 5 News not to miss" can then be added in the front page (like the "related links" we get when reading a detailled news).
I'll say it again the only case where I find news can be bumped is in case of update and even in this case the update part should be obviously tagged (even in this case I would prefer another news item containing only the update and a link to the previous (unchanged) item).
PS: And I'm not talking about the newsfeed that seems broken by the fact that a feed item dated 30-Sep-08 is linking to an online news item dated 17-Sep-08 _________________ AOS 4.1 : I dream it, Hyperion did it ! Now dreaming AOS 4.2... Thank you to all devs involved for this great job !

| Oh for crying out loud...
We, as staff, have decided this news announcement is important for people who MIGHT NOT have caught it first time. Not everyone logs into this site everyday, and we know this. We always leave the latest news in the 'Top Slot' for at least half a day, however, we WILL continue to bump -this particular- news item to keep it, if not on the top slot, at LEAST on the front page.
If you don't like seeing it, scroll down, for heaven's sake... _________________ ¤¤ Official Hyperion Zealot ¤¤

| I feel sorry if you took offense, but I, for one, never cried out in any of my two posts, you are the one that cried out (two times). I was just expressing my *own* opinion about the fact to bump old news items and the way it can mislead readers (especially when the news is 14 days old, I can see one important news sticking on top for 2 days though) into thinking the website has not been updated or have been somehow destroyed by some evil attack.
Anyway I'm not part of the staff and it seems you already took the (irrevocable) decision, I just wanted to let you know in a (what I thought was a) polite way my opinion. I won't bother you again about that, thank you for your attention. _________________ AOS 4.1 : I dream it, Hyperion did it ! Now dreaming AOS 4.2... I don't remember directing my post above only to YOU, as I *am* in this post. Did you? If I am talking TO you, I will @your-name-here. Otherwise, anything I say is a General Comment to the Thread.
Offence? None personal.. why would there be? This is a web forum, people all over the world have different opinions, and maturity levels, and levels of tolerance... misunderstandings are commonplace. No biggie.
I only find it *amazing* and yes, *frustrating* that -anyone- (read: not just you) would complain about having some of the best news that has happened in YEARS, stay on top.
And... most people read more than just the 'top' position news, and can gather that other things have happened since this was announced. _________________ ¤¤ Official Hyperion Zealot ¤¤
