Hi, just one question. I know that Update 3 needs at least Update 1 to install it, but my last Pre-OS4.0 setup before my A1XE died, was with Update 2 installed. Is this one "more neccessary and wiseable" important to have installed before installing Update 3? Would like to know

@FuZion

diskboot 500000 x:y 1

x = Bus number 0 or 1
y = master or slave 1 or 2

depending on your IDE installation.

@ dimmck

The device name is sii680ide.device as apposed to what you used: sil680ide.device

DooDooHead

Just been talking about that on IRC.

It takes about 2 minutes to do that scan on my machine ...

then it goes and does another pass !!

I moved my dvdrw back over to the sil card and disabled the onboard IDE...

DO NOT do this.

it now boots like a rocket ship and you think .. GREAT...

UNTIL.......................................

You get to the black screen, then you get the "No Hard drives" animated boot screen.

Was a swine to sort out.

I had to use the default/FIX option in Uboot then reset to boot off Sil.

I guess that destroyed my ENV settings !!

Reattaching your radeon card within Picasso96.

That option lives in the top drop down menu... yeah this numpty couldn't find it either.
Thanks for pointing that out Mikey.

I do however get screen corruption.
Highlighted icons are a shyte tinge of green
opening an app leaves vertical corruption lines down the screen.
Will post a screeny soon.

>> (Or hyperion could implement storing the log automatically on the drive instead of me having to have a terminal running all year long.)

> Something like that was planned, and might still come. The critical point is to avoid invalidating the harddisk in case of a severe crash, which would mean you have a circular file buffer that never grows...

What about defining an own partition just for that case that doesn't touch the system? I do the same with my browser caches for years now. If a crash happens I can reformat those partitions and lose no data. Anyway, since using SFS I never had this problem again. Just 1MB should be sufficient for that log and could be round-robin with SFS.
BTW: Wasn't it told that there won't be any more validating problems with FFS2 or am I remembering something wrong? I hoped FFS2 was improved to avoid those problems.

@ The_Editor

My configuration is nothing attached to motherboard IDE, and CDRW and 2 HDs on SII. Except for the Bus0 scan evrything is OK. I think I will leave it alone less I make it worse. As I have started with a new HD today, for Update 3, there are plenty of other things to get working again without my messing with these drives anymore.

@ DooDooHead

Indeed

Both ZeroHero and myselfs problems started when we tried to get rid of that crap bus scan thingie.

I've now got it down to just one pass (dunno how).

So it only takes about 4 mins to bootup now.

That'll impress the win crowd !!

For the first time today my XP PC booted faster than my A1. This cannot be!

I don't see any mention of Petunia. Am I correct in assuming that it did not make it into this release?

Hello!

I fixed it by disableing the internal via in uboot prefs. I tried doing the same with the new uboot-prefs program, but that screwed everything up. It wrote some sii3112 variable and the a1 refused to boot.

Jocke 'Zerohero' Birging

@Ned

Petunia will be part of the final release, not in these Pre-OS4.0 updates. Hyperion already mentioned that several times now

Hey.. just to let os4 team know. i installed the update ontop of my current update#2 setup, and it worked right away.
I ofcourse read the readme, and reattached th gfxcard.

i've even tested a few Wos/W3d thing by know, and well it's not perfect, but i expect my Voodoo3 2000 PCI to be part of the problem.

all in all, Great update

Try the demo DSoaB from aminet. It works here (first app that allowed me to try the 3D-drivers). I use a Radeon 7000 by the way.

It's ok. My wife picked "The Titanic" out of the dvd cabinet. So you should not complain so much.

LOL! It wasn't too bad a film (The Pacifier) - had the odd laugh. Unlike Titanic, where the only time I laughed was when Leo slips under the waves. "Never let go!"

Anywho, back on topic! I should get the update installed this weekend, or possibly even Thursday, but only once I've backed up a few things.

@m3x

that did it!

All in all, it went pretty well:

Data and Apps backed up
IDE controller changed to SII
New 120 GB HD installed, partitioned, formatted
OS4 installed and updated to Update 3
Data and Apps restored
Some third party Libs and MUI classes installed
Internet connection restablished
User-Startup and WB Startup adjustments
Ken's Icons reinstalled

It's a great deal faster than it was yesterday!

Thanks, I have. Do you get sound? The graphics display fine on my Radeon 7000, but when the demo loads it puts up an ahi soundmode requester, then all I get are squeaks and thumps.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!
Watching DVD at full speed

Ps: Uboot prefs (enedit) doesn't have UDMA 6 (ATA133) setting for Sil cards, and Sil Sata doesn't have ATA150.
