@all
For best results, I highly recommend:
1. backing up your SYS: to a safe place
2. boot from your latest CD-ROM (update #1 or #2)
3. format SYS: to wipe it clean
4. install from the CD-ROM as usual
5. reboot
6. install update 3 on top of SYS:
7. slowly re-introduce 3rd party stuff and customize to taste

I know it is a pain and you have to reset all your prefs, etc. but you will have a lot less strange problems (e.g. unexplained input.device crashes) and you can be 100% sure you installed everything correctly and some 3rd party app isn't borking your system up.

Besides, you'll need to wipe your SYS: clean again when OS4 final is released so it is good practice. You don't want to even think about mixing pre-release stuff with final release stuff. OK, you can think about it but then you'll have to bang your head against a brick wall to get rid of that thought. It just isn't worth the risk of misconfiguration, stale files, etc.

We do have that in beta test, but not in the update. Sorry, didn't make it in time...

I knew having my 1.5Mb link to the net and 4 port router installed at my place last Friday was a sign! I just knew it! Yes!

Thank you Hyperion for Update3 and thank you TPG for giving me the honking huge pipe I'm currently downloading it through.

Doug

P.S - When is OS4 Final going to be released, and what's gonna be on it?

You need another one to play when the computer is actually ready to use.
Maybe add more for malfunctions and then we'll have music all day.

Thanks for the tip, I think I'll go for a clean install then, to avoid the problems I had with update #1.

Seems this is the last update then, counting
5...4...3...2...1.... only the final release missing then

Oh-oh! I guess I'm the only one this has happened to, but while installing the update it got to about 47% while de-archiving L/random-handler and gave me a requester that said:

Opening of file failed in Archive: base.lha

Installation failed.

I had to manually unarchive the base.lha file and copy the files over, but now I'm wondering if there was anything that was supposed to be done after that and I'm afraid to reboot my machine in an incomplete state. Any clue as to why the install failed?

@DJRJ:

My guess:

- JIT emulation
- bugfixes, optimizations
- missing features added

@ Valiant

You can reboot without problems, the installer doesn't do anything else but unpack the base archive.

As to why it happens: Don't know. It shouldn't be the case, but maybe the file was locked by something...

@Origin:

Please update your ahi.device. It's too old. ( ahi.device V5.49 )

The latest one is: 6.2

Don't forget to update your soundcard's driver too! And download the latest ahiprefs from the offical website too.

I hope it helps.

ps.: And use the given bicubic interpolation image resizer on your depot.

@ Orgin

Is this the OS4 version of Freespace, or the WarpUp version ?

@Mr_Capehill

Yepp, both before and after the update.

I'm no expert but reading the crash log it seems ahi is trying to use dos.library when it crashes.
