@deathcon

I believe that exec.library is part of the kickstart/ stuff, rather than an actual library. You could manually re-extract the kickstart files from the base.lha file, just in case they didn't extract correctly.

Also, did you choose to install the new kicklayout? The main kickstart file which contains exec has a new name post-update3, so if you're still using the old kicklayout you'd be loading the file which contains the old exec instead of the new one.

Try viewing sys:kickstart/kicklayout and check to see if it mentions PCIGraphics.card. If it does not but does mention AmigaOne.card then backup the kicklayout file and extract the new one from the installer directory (it has it's own lha file IIRC).

sorry for my post in german, because bad english.

regards
McFly

Thank Hyperion!

Excellent update.

Wordworth 7 now works for me! Which is great news., turboprint now works!
Even better!
(well it crashesjust before ejecting the first page (on hp815) but it
used to crash straight away, and ignore errors allows it to complete the print)

AWeb disabled gadgets have taken on a new look, but strangely the developement
version (with boopsi labels instead of images for the gadgets) doesn't get
the new look.

DJDR has been on #amigaworld with PR3 instal issues, and it seems he has been getting a black screen just after the kickstart loading bar has gone. thinking this was a gfx issue, i asked him to to use the boot cd in debug mode to get in and alter his prefs.

i tried helping him boot from his release 1 boot cd, but he got the same black screen again. can anyone shed some light on this ?

A1XE/800 with radeon 7000, and his HD and cdrom are on his sii ide card, boot order is cdrom before hd.

thx :D

Not really, no. Did you upgrade to the latest firmwware? What does the "version" command in U-Boot tell you?

U-Boot 1.1.1 March 3 2005 16:42:53

Interrupt settings in U-Boot are 9,10,11,7 all level, AGP is enabled as 2x, sideband (I tried turning sideband off but it didn't make any difference)

Thanks
Chris

Probably a good plan. The way it works at the moment the U-Boot prefs is pretty dangerous. It should at least have a disclaimer saying that settings aren't loaded from U-Boot and that all settings saved not just ones changed.

Personally, I voted to not being able to set uboot env vars from OS4 at all. Sure it is convenient but users are generally used to being able to fiddle with things and not worry so much about damaging their config that they can't boot. With the UBoot prefs utility, you can do a heck of a lot of damage very quickly and you may not notice until the next time you do a cold boot and your system won't boot up. I prefer to force users to set the config vars at uboot time (via menu or shell) so implicitly they know that they are fiddling with low level stuff and they must be extra careful. IMHO of course.

@Rogue / Entilzha

Just played around the GUI prefs again. And frankly it still frustrates me quite a lot. It does a lot, but it's defenitly not userfriendly at all. Even the very limited standard Windows (the redmond OS) GUI prefs is more user friendly.

Here's some suggestions:

How about just skipping the preview button altogether, since it's really not a very good idea to have to click there for every little change you want to do, and instead have an inline real time updated GUI preview? Or perhaps in a secondary window that reflects all changes the user does in real time.

Plus if you click an element in the preview you get sent to where you're supposed to be able to change that element. I'm still trying to figure out how to change the listbrowser background (like the subsystem list) and I just can't find it. A proper clickable preview would have solved that easely.

And everywhere where you can enter an image/texture/gradient. Why not show that texture/gradient there in the main gui window directly (Look at how MUI does it for reference)? Just the same for everywhere you can select a font, why not render that font right beside where you can click to select another one?

And in "styles" where you select bitmap set. Render all bitmaps directly on that page. Best thing would be if you could arrow up/down and the preview shows different bitmaps sets in realtime, but that might not be possible due to the random file system coupling.

If you could drag&drop texture/image/gradient settings between elements and a clipboard like feature then we'd really be talking.

And generally for all prefs programs. They could be helped by having small 'help' buttons beside all different options that when clicked opens up a popup window with some explanatory text. Boring to add but never the less does a lot for user friendlyness.

And as always, all GUI prefs should be in one program, not in 5-6 or so.

Amiga stood for smart and easy to use GUI's once, right? :)

/Björn

Update 3 completed on my µA1-C.

Sheesh that 640X480 4? colour Workbench screen looked awful ...

I was very happy to see my 1024X768 32 bit Radeon settings show up again.

I printed out the instructions and followed them exactly. I believe the update on my A1 XE went fine. When I rebooted I received that odd colored screen. Then I went to reattached the screen setting and I found that I only had three resolutions to choose from:
320x240
640x480
800x600
I selected 800x600, but where are the others? How do I get them back?

In sys:kickstart, there's a file named "kernel". This contains the kernel libraries: exec.library, utility.library, expansion.library, and some other little stuff.

If you still have exec 51.19, you don't have the update installed.

Did you change the installation path when you installed the update ?
