I'll believe it when it's available for sale. To date, AInc and ACK share much in common- failure to deliver much the 'community' wants, regardless of what's been said/promised etc.

And of course, this begs the question- what of SAM then?

How sweet it is. For those who didn't believe, perhaps it is now time for those 20 answers from Bill.

Just spent my $1800.00 a week ago - darn.

From the "unofficial list of potential OS4 hardware" thread on aw.net:

Quote:
Maker: ACK Software Controls

No official license for OS4

Board: PowerVixxenTL

- ATX formfactor board called the PowerVixxenTL (not to be confused with the PowerVixxenLT which is the a1200 expansion).- It will come with a 1.7GHz 7448 for $1000-1200 usd, or with a 1GHz 750GL for $650 usd.
- Theres two versions of this board. Theres the stripper version, which has no onboard PATA/SATA/USB. That functionality is added with a combo card. The stripper board has a 66MHz PCI slot especially for this card. The newer design has a south bridge which will give onboard PATA/SATA/USB, but I dont think this design is quite ready yet.
- IIRC both boards will have PCI-Express (1x lane in the stripper board I believe, and possibly more for the PVTL with southbridge).
- The stripper board is more or less ready, but with some small technical problems.
- Both boards have 2x gigabit ethernet, and are based on the Tundra Tsi 109 northbridge.

More information I gleaned from an IRC log:
[15:48:28] {jahc} what functionality was the soutbridge going to provide again? PATA+SATA+USB+PCI-express?
[15:51:35] {ack} PATA / SATA / USB / AC97 / PCI and it's connected to Host bridge using PCI Express 4x (+bridge on Tsi109)

Board: PowerVixxenLT

- Based on a PowerPC 5200B SoC (System on Chip). Aproximately 400mhz.
- May have onboard Radeon mobility graphics, or a MiniPCI connector for graphics
- Plugs into an A1200, OR can run standalone by itself. An upgrade for PCI slots etc is expected to come out later
- May take DDR RAM
- Has onboard PATA, with Silicon Image 0680 chipset
- USB of some description
(these details are all typed off the top of my head)

I submitted this information myself, and its a mess. It was obtained from IRC over a few months, and I picked out the bits and pieces of information from my logfiles. I'm guessing that the two designs referenced in this news item are going to closely resemble the above specs. But it will be good to hear the official latest up to date specs next week. I wouldnt be surprised if they have seen improvements. For instance, the highend board might possibly have onboard SATA now (this is pure speculation on my part though).

Note: the prices are higher in the Amiga Inc news item than what was previously mentioned. Could this be for OS4 added on?

I will beleive it when I see it, I reserve the right to be just a bit sceptical.

New HW on the way, does that mean a new design and new prototypes or does it mean that AOS4.0 will be availble for SAM??

springs to mind here :)

But atleast its good to hear something from A Inc.

I really hope that Hyperion's deal with ACube wasn't exclusive, otherwise it's going to be just a bit awkward...

It can't be! ACK is really the last manufacturer I'd have expected something from
Anyway, I'll believe it . Adam has already a track record of breaking promises at the last minute...I hope not this time, it would really be silly to have a license without hardware!!!
'cause this is the main news item: a license!!!

We need more than designs.

We need real HW.
We need AOS that can be bought.

We need those to work together, preferably legally.

...

Untill then. YAWN!

btw. did these CPU cards come vailable:
