The port makes use of AmigaOS 4.1 specific features that are not in OS 3, or are differently implemented. So really, not interested. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail

| @ALL
i dont have OS4 + sam to run TIMBERWOLF (AmiFFox) (firefox)(AmiFirefox) and who cares if the name is firefox or else & i am one of the person who wish to see OS4 on x86 hw & firefox is what i use every day/time & love to use the firefox on any amiga but not 667mhz sam yes i will even buy a ppc hw (which i still think its dead market with no future) just to use TIMBERWOLF BUT NOT 667mhz SAM.
Please Port TIMBERWOLF to (Aros/68k WinUAE) to get most out of the speed else i will stick to Win7 & run firefox.

| @Arko >AROS ? doesn't force anyone and the hardware for AROS seems OK
but seem more users/devs see future in OS4 and slow and expensive Hardware pay more money for it instead for AROS.
AROS have no program announce as real3d and some more, no ambigoutos project and nobody port firefox.
thats bad on paper.but on real, AROS and OS4 is same.No ambigoutos project see, no real 3d and no full stable working firefox. |

I just hope it will become a lot more Amiga-like than OWB and have lots of settings like IBrowse. OWB is a necessity at these times but it does lack many useful features which make IBrowse such a excellent app. |
I second that.
IB despite its incompatibilities is still my main browser.
I do hope that TimberWolf can be a good replacement. Lets face it who knows more about Amiga OS than the Friedens, so it should be good.

Gamers dont buy emulators but Amiga Forever is relatively succesful (for an Amiga product). And while I dont find old Amigas interesting anymore (I sold my A1200 seven years ago) many Amiga users fancy running Firefox on their Amiga 4000. It wont run at decent speed but then what would... _________________ Amiga Developer Amiga 500, Efika, Mac Mini and PowerBook

cnn.com take 14 secs on OWB last version and AOS4.1, for your information.
cnn.com take 40 sec with netsurf 3.0 with nothing on cache and 12.1sec the second time (with the time conunter on the lower left part). Last edited by Mrodfr on 30-Sep-2009 at 05:17 PM.

I still wonder why a part of the Amizilla bounty isn't transfered to this bounty... |
Because all sources should be made available so other versions (OS3/MOS/AROS) can share some code. If the code is really "OS4-only" I don't see the problem in publishing it.
Quote:
I can't remember it, but the Amizilla bounty wasn't originally intended to port Firefox to *AmigaOS*, |
yes, but that means AmigaOS *3.x*. OS4, MOS and AROS were added later. If only one binary was available I would prefer it to be 68k since it could run on most of the platforms.
Quote:
Or maybe this Netscape executive should be contacted... i'm quite sure if that person does not want to kill us he will not have problem on his money transfered.. imho. |
I doubt he wants his money transfered to a closed source project. Amizilla intended to share code between the 4 platforms, not to have one port that fagocited the money using non publicly available code.
If the situation was opposite and Firefox was being ported to AROS I doubt people would agree on giving the Amizilla bounty to just AROS and not take advantage of the code.
They can earn 2500$ per platform. It seems that even if they published all the code it would need to be adapted to use features of OS3, MorphOS, AROS... so it wouldn't be a problem of simply recompiling. If it's sooo easy there's nothing stopping them in compiling the rest of versions.
They could earn 2500$ from the OS4 part of Amizilla if they published *all* the sources. _________________ The only spanish amiga news web page/club: CUAZ

| This bounty is increasing quite fast. Maybe it will grow bigger than the old Mozilla bounty. (2100 EUR and growing...)
Also I see jealousy raising its head. Last edited by Tomppeli on 30-Sep-2009 at 05:36 PM.

The older FF is probably faster yes, the newer versions are more bloated. But once FF is loaded, I don't "feel" it to be sluggish on Windows nor on any of the Linux boxes I run it on. Scrolling, opening a new tab and such feels smooth, but the "Options..." window feels a bit sluggish though.
@Fab
cnn.com took 1-2 sec here on my Vista box with Dual Core, 8 mbit/s internet. amigaworld.net took less than 1 sec.

I mean the money itself transfered, *not* a mix of both bounties.. in such way the brothers do not need to apply to the Amizilla rules..(they can do with his own code whatever he want..)
What if people who donated to Amizilla want his money back/transfered to this bounty? this is just what i say, i guess everybody who donated to Amizilla to get Firefox on os4 will like his money transfered (or am i wrong?), mainly because Amizilla is up for quite many years already and a real port from that side seems not feasible nowadays...imo
Regarding if Amizilla was originally for OS3 only, was "os3" really specified at time of creation? :) OS4 is still the official AmigaOS and therefore i still think the money from the Netscape executive must be transfered to this bounty. |

| Great news!
It is difficult to say I know, but how much does 2000 euro cover development costs?
I guess that is almost one guys (junior) monthly salary, so lets say that is 3 weeks paid worth of full time development. |
