| Just installed this (probably should be in bed). I had the same problem as other people with it hanging on boot. After a lengthy investigation period, it turns out that the culprit is ATIRadeon.chip. If you replace the version in SYS:Kickstart with the one from your backup (you did make a backup, didn't you?), everything works as expected.
@Hyperion Are there any unforeseen problems with running the old ATIRadeon.chip?

| As I read in this thread seems that update 3 gives more problems that solve And this is the last update after the main release, I hope that hyperion guys could solve all this problems and made Amigaos as fast, easy and robust as always has been before update 3.
Anyway, THANKS hyperion i undestand that is not a easy task and i trust your skills and that you will do a great work to solve these issues. _________________ No PowerPC, No Fun Make Amiga Great Again

| These problems are came from architectual changes. 4example: the board attaching is needed because the graphics driver is now using bigendian screenmodes instead of littleendian. VBlank interrupt is introduced too, so the interrupt must be enabled. and so on...
These problems wouldn't came up if the user hasn't got pre-release (unfinished) system. |

| Well, I'm all updated and ready to go!
Things went rather smoothly, and everything seems pretty much okay. I had a problem with only low-res screenmodes being available after rebooting (and yes, I did the re-attach thingy first). So I re-did the re-attach thingy and then had some higher resolutions to pick from.
Excellent!
I might add that I just installed it over my pre-release->update#1->update#2 and everything seems just as stable as before. So I guess I can postpone the fresh install for a few more months(?) yet, until the full release becomes available. 'Tis a good thing, for I am indeed a lazy bugger. _________________

No I don't ....
But still, it was stable and it's nice to see the drivers working Last edited by hotrod on 14-Jun-2005 at 10:55 PM.

Yes, amigaone.card is deleted. Yes, I have tried reattaching the settings Yes, I have the latest U-Boot. No, I haven't tried a fresh install (really have to get to bed)
I have other problems as well, so fresh install is probably next on my list, unless somebody comes up with another plausible suggestion.

| WOW!
I've just installed Update 3 and I am absolutely blown away by the speed boost. It feels like someone whipped out my 800MHz processor and replaced it with a 1.2GHz one while I blinked during the reboot!
I'd like to extend my sincerest thanks and appreciation to everyone who has worked on getting OS4 into the wonderful shape it's in. Thanks!
I do have one question. In the install guide it says that to enable DMA you need to read the instructions in SYS:Documentation, which I have done. Now, unless I missed something the option that needs to be changed is the one with the different PIO/UDMA options, but I'm not familiar with how this all works, so my question is which UDMA option is 'safe'? Does it depend on the drive or the motherboard? And should UDMA be enabled for CD/DVD drives as well as hard drives? If anyone knows the answer to this question I would appreciate it very much.
Thanks once again to all developers and testers responsible for the best OS ever! |

| Have anyone with a 750GX CPU tested IBrowse 2.3?
How does it work? More stable than before? _________________ /Harry

I *think* It may have gone wrong because my firmware is not be the lastist version, I'm still fiddling around and I have got it (mostly) installed, and I like what I see, |
Ahem, the docs state "you should have the latest firmware". Please don't complain when you haven't followed the documentation. It was included for a reason. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail

| WEHEY! It's great to have update#3 for OS4 pre-release. It's also great to hear that an update#4 won't be forthcoming, ie, OS4 "final" will be the next thing to come from those fab guys at Hyperion.
THANKS Hyperion.

All:
Be prepared on that you p96 modes will be gone and you are stuck with a non functional odd color 640*480 mode. To solve the wrong colors start screenmode prefs and select maximum number of colors. Save it.
And it might be an idea to either print out the installation document or copy it to another computer where you can view it before installing the update. AmiPDF can't view it properly once your p96 modes are gone.
The document explains how to get the p96 modes back. (I haven't been able to yet because of crashing and not copying the document to another computer before installing)
/Björn |
This is important. I had no problems, but resetting the p96 modes is a small PITA, and copying the PDF is _really_ a good idea, as you'll be hard pressed to read it in the hosed/reset display mode. _________________ Are we not done with the same silly arguments and flames yet??!

| I have found a couple of issues.
1) Attempting to run the Workbench prefs crashes Workbench every time. (No prefs window comes up, open drawers stop responding, but there is no grim reaper). Anyone else got this?
2) Occasionally when booting up, a Grim Reaper will come up just before the system is about to finish loading. (It's in the right resolution, the menubar has appeared, but the background picture and icons have not yet been displayed) Unfortunately the system locks up at this point (no visible mouse pointer at all) so I can't get any further information. But rebooting usually fixes it (it seems to happen ~20% of the time). I'm thinking this could be an issue with one of the pieces of software I have installed in WBStartup. Does that sound like about the point in the loading sequence where it's freezing? I'll try removing things from WBStartup and rebooting lots tomorrow evening, when I have more time, to see if I can narrow down the problem. |

Hi, just one question. I know that Update 3 needs at least Update 1 to install it, but my last Pre-OS4.0 setup before my A1XE died, was with Update 2 installed. Is this one "more neccessary and wiseable" important to have installed before installing Update 3? Would like to know |
It doesn't matter, really. Update 1 is important. Everything in Update3 replaced the files of update 2. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail

| Oh and I spent about ten minutes trying to work out why sound was only coming out of the front audio output which my headphones were connected to, before I realised that a recent power cut had reset my amp to a different input! Last edited by madtrekker on 14-Jun-2005 at 11:39 PM.

| Update 3 completed on my µA1-C.
Sheesh that 640X480 4? colour Workbench screen looked awful ...
I was very happy to see my 1024X768 32 bit Radeon settings show up again.
I'm going to try out a few things before I fiddle around with UDMA settings.
Looks great so far.
By the way, that was a very fine manual. Last edited by redfox on 14-Jun-2005 at 11:42 PM.

You can go to the uBoot shell and type: printenv
or do the same with a serial cable attached to save your existing settings.. _________________ Are we not done with the same silly arguments and flames yet??!
