Interesting to read the estimates on what everyone thinks pricing -should- be, but could anyone plug in the 2 obvious missing expenses?
(1)Licensing/royalty per unit owed either Asiarim or Commodore Holdings Corporation (depending on outcome of their lawsuit and which of those two CUSA is currently negotiating with) and...
(2)Licensing/royalty per unit owed either Itec LLC. (John Grzymala as executor of Pentti Kouri's estate) or Amiga Inc. as case may be.

that's an excellent point, but surely overhead + licensing fees doesn't come anywhere near to $1500. we don't know these numbers for certain, but i cannot imagine anyone agreeing to a licensing fee structure that oppressive.

you are right, so it boils down to
a) have an official Amiga Case / licences given by some "Amiga Left Over Company". b) have the same as "unofficial private version" for less money
As CUSA is, at least here, not considered as "Amiga" anyway, why should we consider those cases as Amiga ? Getting our own Amiga Case together is probably even "Amigaisher" than what CUSA does... _________________ Geomarketing at www.geobiz.de www.gebietsplanung.net www.geomarketing-consultant.de

People do speak of value of hardware alone, as we don`t know licencing of name cost. _________________ OS 3.x AROS and MOS supporter, fi di good, nothing fi di unprofessionalism. Learn it harder way! SinclairQL and WII U lover :D YT http://www.youtube.com/user/rasvoja

the comments on the engadget post are hilarious. who wants to bet on a price drop before it ships?

How come this behavior is accepted against Commodore USA but not against Hyperion?
Not mentioning AROS or MorphOS here, because they're not companies... _________________ Common sense - So rare it's almost like a super power

| I just checked back at CUSA's site, to follow a thread someone started earlier today, which I posted some followup comments on. The entire thread was deleted. Everyone was civil in it (at least when I last saw it)... but there were questions on prices, hardware and about the lack of custom cases. No amiga flame-war sorts of questions, no obscenity, nothing really besides constructive criticism on their extreme pricing. Entire thread, deleted.
That should tell you all you need to know about how CUSA operates. Their business model is based on people being ignorant. |

Seems that CUSA model of censorship and hyper-over-representation unites all those camps as being basically ignorant or often offensive against all of them. There is no mention or tolerance of decent criticism or talk about other Amiga flavours on Commodore-Amiga forums, CUSA YouTube or Facebook.
Difference is that CUSA has no AROS, MOS or AmigaOS related project and history and purely uses Amiga community websites to try to reach more "victims" (sorry, customers) _________________ OS 3.x AROS and MOS supporter, fi di good, nothing fi di unprofessionalism. Thanks for the pricing costs for the components.
It is scary to see the Retail pricing for the off the shelf components that make up the Mac Mini lookalike - not including assembly it is still a very tidy profit margin for them. It is clear none of us is going to buy it...
This product really seems positioned to take advantage of people who haven't followed Amiga in many years, are nostalgic and so can be convinced this is the "rebirth" of the Amiga platform, much like the "reborn" Vic Mini they also sell..
And on that subject did anyone mention the "New" Vic Mini looks exactly the same as the "Amiga Mini" minus the Amiga text? Wow, what a innovative future product line...
Loved this comment on Engadget comments, classic:
Quote:
LOAD "NostalgiaCash-In",8,1 |
Just found some advertising spin for the Vic Mini on the site too - "Runs Cool and Quiet...Looks Hot And Sexy", "Power And Performance Wrapped Inside An Aluminium Dream"
I'm seriously going to be sick....
@thread
It is clear that this device is not a real Amiga.
It is a shame that it is a PC labelled as an Amiga, and embarassing for people like us who want to have geniune new Amiga compatible hardware, which are able to run current Amiga software at a good speed.
Nothing more to see here.Last edited by Epsilon on 21-Mar-2012 at 10:02 PM.

No one thought this was wrong when it happened on AmigaWorld.Net or when it happens on Amigans.net? Why are we reacting about it now? Hypocrisy, I tell you.Last edited by zerohero on 21-Mar-2012 at 10:11 PM.

Well, it was policy on all CUSA sites and promos from day one, unlike they were allowed early on all Amiga websites (or in fact they have tried to use it to bring them crowd and attention)
If my memory serves me right, since the beginning CUSA non existing products were presented by fanboys as only path to go, putting down everyone else, and even bashing AROS they were supposed to support in early promises. Not to mention such behavior as legal threats, personal threats (I`ve even got mail from Barry proclaiming me delusional) and similar ...
Beside this human factor bottom line is that CUSA really doesn`t offer no new software or hardware products and isn`t really linked to any Amiga development, so it isn`t Amiga related news or discussion. And even as PC Commodity hardware deserves criticism for pricing and lack of support.
Its nice you are trying to defend their public speech rights, but there aren`t many reasons to, because their promoters have first started with different tactics.
And truth is they really disallow any publicly visible criticism, trying to have good shiny image. _________________ OS 3.x AROS and MOS supporter, fi di good, nothing fi di unprofessionalism. Learn it harder way! SinclairQL and WII U lover :D YT http://www.youtube.com/user/rasvoja

CALM DOWN!, i love to troll too but this is getting out of hand!.
and ..now we know that going x86 with OS4/morphos etc will not mean cheaper hardware, infact its costing more than the friggin X1k which everyone keeps saying is too expensive. _________________ See my blog and collection website! . https://www.blog.amigaguru.com

Trying to equalize just behavior is over simplification. Those who know their behav from beginning know they incited negativity from the people that are usually decent and good, taking myself as example. _________________ OS 3.x AROS and MOS supporter, fi di good, nothing fi di unprofessionalism.
