Also what I don't get is this sense of ultimatum to the community... It sounds like: "This is your last chance! Accept it or else!" So what are they going to do? Unleash an army of Snowmakers 2.0 on us? |
It seems they gonna make another promise again
Beside jokes, easiest way is to licence Apple Rosetta Stone or QEMU (PPC emulator) and licence OS4 box to run OS4 on mighty x86 on steroids aka i5 or i7
Problem is then, like with Amisys box, there is no need much to develop the OS as it is seen as retro emulation.
Other option is some kind of PPC Box / Mobo / Laptop

| People seem to believe that C=USA have millions of dollars to spend. I believe they have nothing. The so-called $30 million advertising budget was a smokescreen. It never happened.
I have come to the conclusion that C=USA is just another name for Amiga Inc. Last edited by djrikki on 20-Dec-2011 at 02:56 PM. Last edited by djrikki on 20-Dec-2011 at 02:55 PM.

Could you please stop calling a minority of negative people "the entire community"
You're really tryting hard to make us all look bad, which really makes you look bad.
People are allowed to express their oppinion. After all there is already a solution for people using AmigaOS, and as such we perhaps dont need cusa to "save us" as much as you or others want us to think. _________________ On Planet Boing Trevor is God

Riiiiiiiiiight, because ANYONE can co-brand with Disney and be the #1 news story on the internet without money? I don't know how I missed that. I am going to being Anachronism Inustries back from the dead and use this free advertising. _________________ Power Mac G4 "Quicksilver 2002" 800Mhz, 1.5GB RAM, Radeon 8500 MorphOS 2.7 (Registered) $225 total spent!

I'm not trying to make anyone look bad, i am simply calling how I see it. Obviously other people agree with what I am seeing. Look at the noise to signal ratio in this thread, it isn't pretty.

Of course people are allowed to express their opinion, as long as that opinion matches your opinion right?

So you agree with my statement that the Kommunity wants to stay as it is, a few hundred active users.
Myself, coming as a MOS user, I'd love to see a push into the mainstream. It probably isn't realistic for multiple reasons, but I'd love to entertain the idea. _________________ Power Mac G4 "Quicksilver 2002" 800Mhz, 1.5GB RAM, Radeon 8500 MorphOS 2.7 (Registered) $225 total spent!

Yes. To everything.....but remember there will be costs associated, which would ultimately be divided by the 500+ in the first batch. So, a bit of reality is required. |
Well, as long as it's everything, I'd go for a Natami in an A1000-style case (with a keyboard garage). What to do about the OS? That's the tricky bit.
I've never really bought into the notion that PPC-based systems are real Amigas, so I'm not very interested in one of those. I think most people who are already have one anyway. _________________ "Unix is supposed to fix that." -- Jay Miner

Not the business minded or technical laden type of reply I would hope for.
Given that, this seems yet another topic geared to generate lots of front page Cusa chatter/attention, but would have less than a fraction of a chance of seeing completion. Well played actually.

Dunno, but sometimes there was there was this companies that would get mentioned in mayor tech-shows while being evicted (a 2nd time) from their offices.... you know a company that even managed to get a major stadium named after them (well allmost atleast)
It may not all be smoke&mirrors, but those 2 clearly play a major role in NotC=USA's buisness. _________________ - We don't need good ideas, we haven't run out on bad ones yet - blame Canada

Just for your understanding: This is a community and not an organized company or a democratic organization. Here you will find different opinions and we have not a spokesperson telling you anything.
Understand? You ask a community deciding something, what is not possible to decide for a community.
You should make a proposition or two and then see, if someone is willing to buy it.
At least - do not make the community responsible if you won't get an answer! It is your fault! You are the ones not understanding what it means making business! _________________ Sometimes we give people a lot of credit just because they're writing nice sentences even if it isn't adding up to much.

| Only with a real agreement between CUSA and Hyperion, AEON or ACUBE I would be interested in investing in this project. Also, if there OS4, I'm not interested.

Last time I checked Sheeplord and McBill are not employed by CUSA
McBill never dropped any big money. There is doubt even the long delayed teeshirts really came from AI. There may be some smoke and mirrors somewhere, but not when it comes to Disney and the extreme buzz created earlier this year. That was the first time it has hppened since Commodore went BK. you have to give CUSA that at least. _________________ Power Mac G4 "Quicksilver 2002" 800Mhz, 1.5GB RAM, Radeon 8500 MorphOS 2.7 (Registered) $225 total spent!

| I haven't read every post in this thread but I like the idea as long as people's money is safe I see no problem.
here's how I see it.
To please most people here It will have to run amiga OS4.x since there seems to be no way to legally sell anything under the amiga name with any other amiga like OS so Hyperion will need to be on board so any hardware platform will need to be PPC based unless Hyperion have already ported AOS to arm or can do quickly (it's unlikely but x86 is even more unlikely)
Basing something on Natami would be a great idea but the Natami project isn't ready and may not be for quite some time, throwing money at them and giving them a deadline may cause them to lose what it is that drives them to continue what is basically a hobby.
The problem I see is that the people you are asking to make the decisions don't have enough inside information to know what is feasible for such a project and all that will come out of it will be dreams.
Considering what from the outside seems to be possible the best that could happen is that CUSA could produce a PowerPC based motherboard and an all in one case similar to the fantasy case design then sell the board with AOS4 in that case and in a larger Amiga branded desktop case. There really is no need to develop a new motherboard, just buy from acube and sell those boards in the custom Commodore Amiga cases. Commodore USA would even use the same case designs for its core x86 market and that should be enough to fund the development of the case without having to ask for upfront payment. this is already doable so no need for this thread at all.
If you want us to tell what we really want then I would like a Nintendo DS XL size device with built in keyboard and game controller similar to the Pandora with the Natami chipset and a PPC or Arm CPU running amiga OS4.x, it must have usb ports and a hdmi output though so it can be used on a desktop or a TV too. _________________

| Just plowed through this thread, and my two cents is that the hardware isn't as important, as the presentation, having a well thought out philosphy on what it should be. None of these OSes, or software for them, require that much hardware wise. So for me, what's under the hood isn't interesting at all. What you want is the Amiga experience. I don't really want to use a worn out example, but I think about Apple (or Nintendo for that matter in some aspects). The hardware is alright, but it's nothing you can't find anywhere else. Instead they focus on the user experience, making an impression. And having a "low" price is pretty much a no deal (considering the kind of demand it's gonna be for this). I'd use a big chunk on hiring a great industrial designer and make a sweet looking shell, that looks like what Amiga would look like in 2012, or something that just stands out and looks amazing. And also hire someone qualified to make a "theme/skin" for OS4, MOS or AROS that looks professional and modern. The first impression is what sells. Basically, I feel everything is available already; hardware, working OSes, a good start on software, enthustiasts. Just make it SHINE. |

Seems to me more like
CUSA: We would like to create a community project, tell us what you want and we will see what we can do to make it happen.
Typical of everybody twisting words though, we all see what we want in everything we read.
I have been a very big doubter of CUSA but I don't think we have anything to lose in playing nice with them with this and seeing what comes of it as long as everybody's money is safe in an independent account.Last edited by TheMaskedMuchacho on 20-Dec-2011 at 05:49 PM.
