| lol @ Amiga socks. ...... or is that Amiga branded socks?
I just think this is another attempt to hijack Amiga users after all if all you have is a linux theme, emulators and a licence to brand PC's as Amiga you just dont have the product in the first place and you need to make a grab for users to add some cred and strength to your .... hey what do you call it? does even Ben think its a real Amiga? _________________

this is a nice gesture. seriously. and although this is a rather unorthodox approach for a going commercial concern, i'll go ahead and bite. i'd love to see a real, totally new, POWER-based, amiga NG notebook computer. for under $2000 per unit retail. the OS4 development team could specify the architecture, you contract out the design work, all the packaging and mechanicals, voila. the netbook that's coming will be nice, but i'd like to see something new.
and funding amigaOS developers directly would be nice as well; might even speed things up if they could get funding on the front-end of a project than the back-end.
i know this has nothing to do with your existing product line or direction, hey, but you asked.

Yeah, we do have the past coupon scams etc.
But hey, what are you complaining this time? This is fair offer. Much fairer than you could expect.
We can choose the machine to be built. If we want it to be the fastest computer ever, its possible. If we want AOS4 tablet, its possible. If we want AOS4 Laptop, its possible.
The idea is, we decide, they make it, as far as its possible. If we want new Atari named Commodore Amiga, as far as its on their hands, we get it.
And yes and no, they were and werent asking our money in advance. They asked money to be put on trusted third party, ie. in way of Amiga Bounty system.
They arent seeing a single red penny if they dont deliver the product. Actually, if they start the project, and it doesnt come in half a year out for whatever reason, they might even lose some money.
And asking for 500 preorders, well, although its possible there might not be that many coming, i think thats pretty reasonable to keep the price to at least somewhat realistic.
So stop complaining!!! and start giving some constructive feedback like suggestions on who the third party should be, how the polls should be, where should we send the ideas and whom are to administer the ideas into polls etc.
Yeah, its not very good offer in sense that they are not really taking any risks. They want to see there are ready buyers already etc. Its bit like putting an order to Chinese factory, they wont make the products until they know you actually ordered them.
But they are going to handle all the difficult parts, like get the schematics etc. done, use their connections to get good prices and so on.
Yeah, in some sense the offer might not be much, but have you seen anyone else done that for us?
Although I have to say im bit pessimistic about getting those 500 preorders, I think this is anyway pretty good offer from them. |

| LOL! What kind of news items is this? Basically a company suggests to name our dream Amiga, gather 500 ppl and pre-pay the full amount. LOL! And what exactly is CUSA gonna do? ####, nothing! rofl. Oh sorry, they are gonna put the sticker. Hobby company Aeon and semi-professional groups like Natami guys look ultra professional compared to this.. thing!
Nope, I don't buy it. We need economies of scale here. CUSA is a big company with over than 30 m $ only for advertising. Imagine the RnD department they have! So, you take the full risk, you contact the OS/HW devs, you mass produce it building tens of thousands in order to bring down final cost and then come back here. _________________

so if a poll calls out for this will you do it in 6 months ? |
6 months from 500 people putting their money in an independent account. But first you must finally decide. Then we cost it. Then you pay it. Then we build it Then we get the money..... Then you get the product......or you can have your money back.
Simple.

Maybe because Linux are Linux, and does not matter how you call it, it still will be Linux ? Calling adding of walpapers to linux as OS are plain lie and fooling of users (without to much success anyway) _________________ Join us to improve dopus5! zerohero's mirror of os4/os3 crosscompiler suites

Think you'll find that ssolie is a bit busy with the x1000 project at the moment, but I agree with others, any new system, no matter what cpu, must run os4. _________________ Hate tends to make you look stupid...

We don't get your money if you don't like the end result.... There'll likely be a lot of effort and cost expended to get to the finish line, at our own risk, without seeing a cent of your money. We want the 500 people pre-paid in an independent account to know there is interest....otherwise...what is the point? _________________ Leo Nigro, CTO Commodore USA, LLC Opinions expressed are my own and not those of C= USA. i can't believe this, but i agree with you on this one. i've already given my suggestion, others should as well. for all of our complaints against CUSA, one of them was that they had the brand but didn't care about the community or its interests. for folks to jump all over them now that they've done exactly that is a bit unfair.
@thread
this is the first time CUSA have come to us to ask us what we want and to offer to build it for us. i say we answer honestly and constructively and see what happens. it takes just a couple of seconds to reply. go for it.

| the past behavior of CUSA means that even if they say they would make a dual G5 or power AmigaOne for OS4 I would have serious trust problems signing up cash for it.
I think that goes for many here already the coupon comments are flying.
if only this had happened in the first place. but even then I suspect Ben isnt so uninformed that he NEEDS A POLL???? does he really need a poll to know that people want fast cheap PPC?
again it's hard not to think "it's another stunt right?"
*edit* and I really want it to happen BTW so I hope it happens Last edited by Panthro on 19-Dec-2011 at 11:01 PM.

Here are couple of things to think for this offer as well as couple of questions to BigBenAussie.
Questions:
1. Is it possible for you to co-operate with Natami team and get Natami machine out?
2. Is it possible to get Cell Phone that would run under AOS4? First of all, would it be possible and practical, and secondly, would it work with any cellphone operators sim cards just like that or would it require some deals made with cellphone operators (making it practically impossible).
Thoughts for all who are interested in this:
Although it would be possible to make worlds fastest computer AOS4 for example, I dont think we can get 500 people to preorder it. I think we should aim for either something cheap, or something that we are anyway using in which the current brands are not so necessity (cellphone?) or something we are missing currently from Amiga community (Laptop, Tablet). Or then we could maybe figure out something totally new.
Here are some suggestions that comes to my mind.
Cellphone, Tablet, Laptop, Natami, some other Amiga Project that never came, New Console (CD64), Amiga In A stick, X86 Amiga that we design, AmigaOS based DVD Player + other similarities, IPTV box based on AOS.
Those the ideas that come to my head quick. |
